Monday's Favorite Finds

Some Mondays you can't get in the mood to work, so instead I look for things on the Web that I don't really need but have convinced myself are necessary (see above). Enjoy the week!

Running...

I feel like I'm running a marathon! I haven't stopped since I got started last Friday. Friday I rushed home from work to pick up A who was very sick. Saturday and Sunday were spent taking care of kids, doing laundry and attempting to keep the house full of food. Monday was super busy at work and by the time Tuesday rolled around it felt like Thursday. Tuesday I had to leave work and take J to the doctor for her goopy eye. Turns out her nose is so backed up with snot that it is pushing up through her tear ducts (EWW!) and there is nothing they can do. Great, waste of $20 and I had to leave work early. Wednesday wasn't any better. I had more craziness at work and then I rushed to go get my taxes done (because I just didn't have the patience to figure it out myself this year). I was so happy to be home on that night, but I got the pleasure of working for about an hour to help catch up. Now today is Thursday. I have at least 10 unfinished, unstarted, uncompleted projects that need wrapped up by Friday and I'm starting to get sick. Great! Just in time for J's birthday party on Saturday. On top of everything they are calling for a big snow storm tonight. So tonight I will be cleaning the house for the party (my least favorite wifey duty). Friday night brings a meeting with the Realtor to sell the Elyetta house. Oh and I can't forget to pick up cupcake mix tonight so I can make cupcakes Friday after the meeting. Saturday begins the birthday preparations since we are expecting about 30 family and friends at our house. Oh what a week this has been. I think Sunday I'll just lay in bed and not move because by then I'll be exhausted and probably sick. I wouldn't expect anything else because it's my life!

There's nothing worse ...

than a sick kid! A is a mess .. coughing, wheezing, not eating and just laying around. I wish I could make her feel better but the best I can do is give her a blankie, and her Elmo and put Nick Jr. on the tv. I wish there was more I could do. I guess my weekend will be spent at home with my babies, but I can't complain too much about that. A and J are my everything and I would do anything to spend more time with them, even though it's my life and I have a hard enough time making "me" time.

But this morning was different ...

I enjoy my quiet mornings. I wake up when my DH walks out the door. I eat my breakfast while I watch my DVR'd shows from the night before (or a few days before) then I get dressed and wake up the kids. It is quiet and peaceful and as close to it gets as "me" time. Well this morning I had an intruder a visitor during quiet time. A decided to wake up when my DH got up (5:15 a.m.!). I convinced her to stay in bed until 5:30 when I got up, but then she followed me downstairs. She then wanted some juice which I poured into the "wrong" cup. (Meltdown #1). I poured her a small bowl of cereal and told her she could sit on the couch with me. (Meltdown #2) A didn't want a small bowl she wanted a big bowl with milk. I finally got the cereal and the juice straightened out and she sat down to eat. Two meltdowns before 5:45 is WAY too many for me. I sat there frustrated, grumpy and tired watching Top Chef, eating my cereal.
Tomorrow morning will be much better. I get to sleep until 6 and there is no quiet time. I was happy to get to spend the extra time with A this morning, but I sure do miss my quiet mornings. Someday when she has kids, she will understand too. Until then I will keep on hoping for quiet mornings because it's my life and that's how I like it!

Tuesday's Favorite Finds

I wish I would've done this with my kids!

Everyone needs large flowers on their wall, right?!

LOVE this apron!

My 3 favorite finds on the web today ... oh I wish I could spend all day looking at these goodies! Sometimes it's the little things during the day you have to do to get in your "me" time. But in the end it is worth it because it's my life!

Happy Valentine's Day!

It's Valentine's Day! I'm not big into the give a gift or do something romantic because it's Valentine's Day. Just to know that my DH and my children love me is enough for me. This year we aren't exchanging presents, having a fancy dinner or doing anything special. It's just like any other Monday, but somehow all the love floating around makes me a little happier. Today's post is dedicated to some Valentine's Day Fun Facts (because I'm just that dorky), so let's begin:

  • Roman husbands kissed their wives when they came home from work, not as an ancient version of "Hi, honey; I'm home" but rather to determine whether the missus had been hitting the bottle during the day. (I know some people that would be caught by this, hehe)
  • In 1763, kissing is first symbolized by the letter x, as in xoxo.
  • In 1907 the Hershey Kiss was invented.  It's rumored that the candy was named after the sound the machine made as it dropped the chocolate onto the conveyor belt. (I don't care how they got their name, they are just delicious!)
  • Prince Charming awakens Snow White with a kiss in 1937
  • In 1990 Alfred Wolfram kissed 8,001 people in eight hours (that's more than 16 people a minute!) at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival. (Eww, germs!)
  • In 2004 a couple in Italy, Andrea Sarti and Anna Chen, set the record on Valentine's Day after locking lips for 31 hours, 18 minutes, and 33 seconds. They beat the record held by Americans Rich Langley and Louisa Almedovar, who kissed for 30 hours and 59 minutes in 2001. Andrea required oxygen treatment after the kiss. (Don't these people have to pee or eat? And wouldn't you lose a lot of spit during this process? Dehydration would also be an issue!)
Have a wonderful Monday, I know I will because it's my life!

Planning, planning, planning...

I'm obsessed with planning. I plan out my day, I plan out the week, I plan out the weekend, I plan the birthday parties and the doctor's appointments. No matter what it is, I plan it. But there's one thing I don't plan ... time for myself.

While the DH gets to pick up his friend on Friday nights and hang out in the garage, I'm on Mom duty. While he goes and gets his hair cut or runs to the store, I'm on Mom duty. Don't get me wrong, I love my kids and I love spending time with them (sometimes I feel I don't spend enough time with them) but I never get any time to myself. I started looking at my calendar and realized I haven't had my hair cut since September (which would've been the last time I had any "me" time). September?! Seriously?! Have I really let myself get to this point? I made a goal for this year to learn how to enjoy "me" time. The problem is, how can I enjoy it when I never get it. I feel guilty for leaving my kids and focusing on myself. And now I look back and realize that I haven't done anything for me in months. This weekend isn't looking good for "me" time either. Tonight I'm searching for invitations to J's birthday party and I'm on Mom duty while my DH plays in the garage. Saturday is house cleaning and party supply shopping. Sunday we have to get A's hair cut and visit my Grandma. Oh and don't forget the cooking and laundry that also needs done. Maybe someday I'll fit some "me" time in because it's my life and it's only going to last for so long!

Technology is ...

I got a new computer at work on Friday. It took 2+ hours on Friday to get it set up and then another 1 hour this morning. Needless to say I'm 3+ hours in and it still isn't working properly. Oh technology! Sometimes it is so nice, but sometimes you want to throw your computer, cell phone, mp3 player, etc. at the wall. Today is one of those "throw it at the wall" kind of days. Most likely if I threw my computer at the wall it wouldn't break and I would just be stuck with it because it's my life.

Gross!

There are some things that should be taken care of at home and not at the office. Personal hygiene being one of those things. Set aside some extra time to cut and file your fingernails at home. PLEASE don't use your spare time at the office to do this. It is gross, really gross. I would much appreciate not hearing you sawing away at your daggers trying to keep your manicure up-to-par. I should've come to expect this working here because it's my life and gross things happen.

It's a Snow Day!

I'm not excited that there is massive amounts of snow outside my windows, but I am excited that I have an excuse to stay home and not go anywhere. Unfortunately, I have to work today (from home) while the kids and my DH get to play. Since the office is closed I'm not sure how much I'm actually going to get done.
The forecast doesn't look promising for today.

Hopefully it will be a fun, but productive day. I hope the kids don't go stir crazy and my DH doesn't get frustrated being stuck inside all day; no matter what it will be an adventure because it's my life.
