Weekend in pictures

Eating popcorn that was cooked over the campfire
Hanging out by the campfire ... perfection!
Dinner cooked over the fire -- yum!
Camping was a blast ... as usual. More to come on our campfire cones that were a success and if you look you can see the better baked potatoes we tried out. I'm sure I need run a marathon to burn off all the goodness I ate this weekend. But it was worth it!

What I love this week...

My  new Kindle case from The Pleated Poppy -- LOVE it!
I cannot stop eating these -- they might be my new obsession!
(I may or may not have 15+ coupons to buy more, shhh!)

Drink Up!

I had to create a new pin board. My Recipes to Try board was starting to be overwhelmed by drink recipes. That's why Drink Up! was born. Here's a few of my favorites that I hope to try out!
Summer Spritzer

Instant Margarita
15 Different Lemonades
Of course I'm linking up to Oh how Pinteresting at The Vintage Apple

I'm feeling inspired ...

I've learned a lot over the past year or so about eating better and feeding my kids better. I try to pay attention to what is in the foods we eat. I'm not a crazy label lady or anything, but if I can get a loaf of bread that has 7 pronounceable ingredients instead of a loaf that has 30 questionable ones then I'm going to do it! I don't want eating better to break the bank (yes I know we'd end up paying more in health care premiums with bad eating habits).

Through my pinning obsession I cam across a blog featuring real food, 100 Days of Real Food to be exact. I started looking through past blog entries and was amazed. Their budget was small, their goal was big and they did it. I'm impressed, really I am, as I look through their journey. It makes me believe I can take a few small steps to help my kids realize what is good for them and what isn't.

Not only do I want to make this change for myself, but I want to teach my kids. I want them to grow up happy and healthy and not be part of a statistic of overweight, under nourished kids. Is that too much to ask? I personally stopped eating fast food (McDonald's and such) awhile back. I don't remember what made me stop or the last time I ate it. I just remember feeling horrible after eating a burger and fries. Don't get me wrong I love a good burger, but the keyword there is good. I prefer the ones I make to the flattened, gross things they serve up.

I'm considering taking their 10 day challenge. With a stubborn hubby and one kid with food allergies I don't think I could get the whole family on board, but maybe they could be on board a few of those 10 days. I think it will be good. I'll let you know what I decide to do!

Mother's Day weekend

This mama got to do some things that she normally wouldn't over the weekend. I went grocery shopping by myself, matched up my coupons and saved some dollars! The DH and girls let me pick out what to plant in the garden and I got them all in.
Lettuce on the left, salsa pepper in middle and tomato at far right corner
We will be giving berries a try this year! I'm excited to see if anything turns out. We are trying blueberries and strawberries. I mentioned before that I have some races I want to run this year. I've signed up for 2 so far. I was able to run 3 miles last night in prep for the first 5K next month. I was a little slower than I liked, but it was my first 3-mile run of the year so it was a start. Hope all the other mamas had a wonderful weekend!

Camping success!

We went camping this weekend for the first time this year. It was a blast! Of course I forgot my camera and my cell phone was dead (who was going to call me anyways). Here's the only picture I could find from my sister-in-law.
My DH, me and his grandparents in the background
Next time I'll do a better job of taking pictures, at least some of the kids!
