Bathroom re-do

We had to stop by Lowe's over the weekend and pick up more toilet guts (a flapper and other parts) for the downstairs bathroom. We've been discussing re-doing the bathrooms since we bought the house. I HATE the upstairs bathroom, but it's the only shower so I'm kinda afraid to start demo work in there. DH doesn't mind the upstairs bathroom but HATES the downstairs bathroom. So it looks like we might start downstairs. We started by looking at vanities, because I admit that ours is U-G-L-Y! Here were our two favorite options
Like the style, not much storage
More storage space and the one I saw had a white top
We briefly checked out flooring, but were very disappointed in the selection. We have to decide if we want to install ourselves (peel and stick tiles) or if we want to have someone else install (roll of vinyl). That's still up for discussion.

As we wandered around deciding what else we needed, I found a cute mat to put in the bathroom (which is also the laundry area).
I've decided this is my inspiration for the room. Dark vanity with blue/aqua and green accents. DH isn't sure about it yet, but I know I'll convince him! I also found a mirror that matches the Euro styled vanity (#1 above).
Nothing fancy, but it matches the vanity
Let's hope we can get this project accomplished before the summer is over!

Quotes I adore

This week for Oh how Pinteresting I've decided to put up some of the truths about myself (or that are just fun!).

Let's begin ....
One of my favorites!
I don't say this ... often.
So true!
This is the only thing that keeps me sane some days

Butterscotch Coffee Cake

Easiest recipe I've EVER made! I've had this recipe for about 5 years, but I don't make it often. It's so yummy and not too much butterscotch flavor.

You'll need:
1 box of yellow cake mix
2 eggs
2 snack pack cups of butterscotch pudding
butterscotch chips
1/8-1/4 cup of sugar

Mix cake mix, eggs and pudding in a bowl. Add to a well greased cake pan (or 8x8). Sprinkle with as many butterscotch chips as you'd like (a handful or two). Sprinkle sugar over the top. Bake at 350 for 30 minutes.

Enjoy!

Toe cleavage

I sit at my desk all day long ... 8 hours at my desk. I ride in a car every day to work ... 2 hours in the car. Needless to say I do a LOT of sitting during the week. I try to walk on my lunch break to get up and out and make an attempt at not gaining weight. I normally walk about 1 1/2 miles at lunch then come back to sit. Well today I wore my cute black pumps. Problem! They aren't so cute after you've walked and you try to shove your swollen feet back into them. I've got a major case of toe cleavage now. All I need to do is sit for a couple hours until the swelling goes down and I'll be fine. Shouldn't be a problem ... I've got at least 3 more hours of sitting before quitting time.
Yes I did just post a picture of my toe cleavage on my blog ...  I'm just weird like that!

Have you heard about ...

Sometimes you happen across neat sites and wonder how you've been living without some of these things! While I was doing my daily check on Whatever (seriously if you don't read Meg's blog you should, it's great) I was ooh-ing and ahhh-ing over her latest craft weekend (which is ingenious by the way!). She gets some awesome sponsors for these weekends and they give the ladies some AMAZING goodies to take home. I found a little site that I haven't heard of before House8810
Happy Camper plate and cup set
Retro wall clock
Fast food dish towel
All Out of It pad (reminds me of my Grandma and Grandpa!)
It's the perfect amount of retro with a flair for the modern. I might just buy one of everything! I bet I'll at least spend $50 since they have free shipping on larger orders :)

Garage Sale season

Does anyone else get excited when the weather gets warmer and people start putting up their garage sale signs? It's like the first hint that summer is coming. I started prepping last night for our own garage sale. I've got about 12 boxes of clothes to sort through and probably 4 garbage bags full of toys. It's a little overwhelming to get it all ready, but I know in the end it will be worth it (last year was success after all!). And at the end of the day I'll end up with a little extra cash in my pocket and maybe someone else will have found a treasure among my trash. Oh and of course I'm excited to shop at other people's garage sales ... you never know what you'll find that you HAVE to take home!
This is only what I've sorted so far, about 5 more boxes to go!

Just a little sewing

I've been dying to do some sewing. It's been months since we rearranged the guest bedroom/weight bench/sewing room and I have yet to sit down at my sewing machine.
As soon as I spotted this DIY maxi dress, I knew I had to try it out! Us short girls can't buy a maxi dress from the store without having to shorten it about 4 inches so I knew this was my solution. I pretty much followed the tutorial step-by-step aside from the elastic thread. Wal-Mart was out, Michaels didn't have any and I wasn't driving across town for elastic thread (mainly because I knew I'd end up buying WAY more). I spent less than $10 on the fabric and the tank top. I'm pretty happy with the results. I ended up not having enough "extra" fabric to create a large waistband tie so I'm still brainstorming solutions for that.
Sorry for the lack of a decent photo, A took this one
Of course I couldn't make a dress just for myself. I made a cheater dress for A. Smocked fabric + ribbon = dress in about 5 minutes! For under $7 A got herself a cute new Hello Kitty dress.
